llms.txt is an informal community proposal for a root Markdown file that summarizes your site for language models. We implement the format with an H1, optional summary, and curated link lists. We do not claim it controls access or rankings.
What llms.txt Is and Is Not
llms.txt is a proposed convention where a Markdown file at the root of your domain provides a plain-text overview of your site. It is not robots.txt, which controls crawler access. It is not an XML sitemap. It is not a permission grant for training. It is not a confirmed ranking or citation factor.
File Structure and Content
We create the file with a required H1 title. We add an optional summary paragraph that describes your business and key pages. Then we organize H2 sections with bulleted links to relevant pages. Each link includes a short descriptive label. We keep the file concise and factual.
Curation and Maintenance
We curate the link list to include your most authoritative and useful public pages. We avoid duplicating navigation or including thin content. We set a review schedule to update the file when pages change. We validate the file for Markdown syntax and broken links.
Honest Limits and Expectations
Provider support for llms.txt is voluntary and should not be assumed. The file does not block access, grant training rights, or influence citations. We implement it as a best-effort courtesy for AI systems that choose to look for it.
