System Inventory and Dependency Mapping
We start by cataloging every component of your legacy system: servers, databases, cron jobs, batch processes, and manual steps. We map dependencies between components and external systems. We interview the people who operate and use the system to capture undocumented behavior. The output is a dependency graph and a written inventory that lists every piece of code and data, including orphaned or dead code that can be safely removed.
Risk Assessment and Staged Replacement Options
For each component, we assess the risk of replacement: data loss, downtime, integration breakage, or user confusion. We then present options: replace in one go (big bang), replace in stages (strangler pattern), refactor in place, or re-platform to a new host. We discuss the tradeoffs of each option in terms of cost, risk, and time. We do not recommend a single approach; we give you the information to decide.
Migration Rehearsal and Rollback Planning
Before a production change, migration and rollback procedures are rehearsed in the closest practical staging environment. Data transformation and post-migration checks use representative cases and documented acceptance criteria. Results inform the cutover window and fallback decision, but cannot guarantee production duration, uninterrupted service, or successful recovery.
Coexistence and Knowledge Transfer
When staged coexistence is appropriate, synchronization direction, authority, reconciliation, and failure modes are documented. Knowledge-transfer sessions and operating documentation are included according to the agreed handoff and support scope.
